Director, IT

We are actively seeking dynamic and diverse team member to join us in the role of Director, IT in Wixom, MI, in a hybrid work structure.
The Director of Information Technology oversees the planning, implementation, maintenance, and support of all information technology (IT) systems and infrastructure within Detroit PBS. This position ensures the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of technical and data resources, supporting the station’s broadcast, production, and business/administrative functions.
Essential Functions
Primary Responsibilities: The following primary responsibilities are vital to successfully meeting the expectations of this position in an effective and efficient manner. This is not an exhaustive list, and areas of focus may fluctuate between the primary and secondary responsibilities, as needed.
- Oversee IT strategy and planning. Analyze IT infrastructure, systems performance, and task workflow; develop and propose improvements and solutions; establish short- and long-term implementation goals; and identify and research new technologies.
- Oversee IT operations and infrastructure. Ensure ongoing business operations; monitor and maintain system processes and performance; provide direction, guidance, and training to IT staff; and develop, implement, and evaluate IT projects.
- Oversee cybersecurity and compliance. Develop and implement comprehensive strategies, policies, and procedures to identify and mitigate risks, ensure compliance with industry regulations, and respond effectively to security incidents.
- Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders and align IT strategy and information security practices with business objectives.
- Build and maintain relationships with vendors, external partners, and service providers to stay informed about emerging threats, best practices, and regulatory changes.
- Manage the IT budget, monitor spending, and track ongoing costs; purchase cost-effective equipment, software, and services; and maintain an inventory of IT assets.
- Apply continuous learning strategies to stay abreast of all advances in the IT and information security industries; stay current with industry trends, regulations, standards, and best practices.
Secondary Responsibilities: The following are additional activities that are expected to be performed in this position:
- Provide clear communication and collaboration across all departments.
- Deliver exceptional customer service to all Detroit PBS employees.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date IT records and documentation.
- Make IT subject matter presentations to leadership and staff.
- Complete administrative duties in a timely manner, including expense reconciliation, surveys, and evaluations.
- Assist and oversee day-to-day IT ticket resolution.
- Attend webinars and conferences to further cyber education.

- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with teams across the entire organization.
- Ability to translate technical jargon to non-technical personnel.

- Work independently and be highly self-directed and self-motivated.
- Ability to work with external vendors.
- Knowledge of public broadcasting and non-profit organizations a plus.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology or a related field, OR equivalent experience.
- Five years’ progressive experience in a multifaceted, technical organization, with at least two years leading a team.
- Experience working in IT operations, supervising staff, and overseeing technology projects.
- Understanding of computer and network systems, cloud services, data storage, backup systems, and MPLS network infrastructures.
- Advanced understanding of cybersecurity, the relationship between IT and business, and maintaining confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
- Certificates in IT hardware, networking, and cybersecurity are preferred, but not required.
- IT experience working with LANs, WANs, and VMware.
- Experience managing Cybersecurity and Disaster Recovery programs.
- Experience with budgeting and financial management.
Physical Demands
Individuals must be able to type and sit behind a desk for extended periods of time.
Work Environment
Individuals are exposed to a typical office setting with computer equipment between multiple locations.
