Detroit PBS names Haley Taylor as 90.9 WRCJ’s newest radio personality
As a classical radio veteran, Taylor brings a decade of experience to Detroit PBS, just in time to take part in the radio station’s exciting new schedule.
Detroit, MI – Long-time radio personality, Haley Taylor, has joined Detroit PBS as a radio host for its classical and jazz radio station, 90.9 WRCJ. She brings charisma, authenticity, astute musical knowledge and a decade of experience to the role.
In her new position, Taylor hosts the classical music program, “Midday Music.” This immersive radio program combines the musical works of renowned composers with personal insights and lean-in interviews conducted by Taylor. “Midday Music,” which begins at 10 a.m., features hand-picked classical pieces, commentary and historical context. Then at noon, Taylor pivots to “Bach’s Lunch,” highlighting the works of J.S. Bach, followed by “Midday Mozart” at 1 p.m., which showcases the works of Mozart. She rounds out the afternoon with an eclectic repertoire of inspiring classical sounds.
“With Haley hosting ‘Midday Music,’ we are fortunate to have a seasoned veteran host who knows the music and the craft,” said 90.9 WRCJ Director of Station Operations, Peter Whorf. “It’s an exciting time here at the station with a new crop of music personalities and different approaches. We are bound to attract new audiences and excite our current listeners.”
Before joining 90.9 WRCJ FM, Taylor dedicated eight years of her media life to WGTE Public Media in Toledo, serving as a radio host and producer of such programs as “Morning Classics,” “Evening Classics” and “Classical Overnights.” Additionally, she created and produced the arts and culture radio series, “The Rough Draft Diaries,” along with various radio plays.
Taylor took a brief hiatus from the radio industry to direct, produce and edit audiobooks at Dreamscape Media, where she oversaw all aspects of the production process, from casting the talent to directing and editing recording sessions.
Returning to her first love will allow Taylor to build a deep connection with the loyal 90.9 WRCJ audience and to welcome and engage new listeners who are curious about classical music.
“Getting back to radio, back to public media, feels like coming home in a lot of ways,” said Taylor.” I’m excited to return to a form of storytelling I grew up listening to – a sound that is familiar and yet new. This is what I hope to bring to our audience, something new and fresh yet familiar and personal.”
Other nuanced changes at the radio station include an expanded role for Christa Grix, an already familiar personality to Detroit PBS classical and jazz music listeners, who now has a steadier presence as a backup announcer and on-air producer of short educational spots that highlight connections between classical and jazz music.
Lastly, the radio station has changed its programming schedule as of Oct. 7.
“This new lineup allows us to employ three full-time hosts now and dedicate more time and attention to our weekend presence,” said Whorf. “We are a stronger team than ever before with this new syndicated-driven schedule — it’s a momentous time for the station.”
The new schedule and assigned host are now as follows:
- Dave Wagner hosts “The Morning Show,” 5 a.m. to 10 a.m.
- Haley Taylor hosts “Midday Music,” 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Peter Whorf hosts: “The Drive Time Elixir,” 2- 6 p.m.
- Bill McGlaughlin hosts: “Exploring Music,” 6-7 p.m.
