One Detroit

Chris Jordan has been with One Detroit since its very first episode as the show’s primary video editor and one of its core camera operators. In the years since, he has also expanded his work to become a segment producer for the show, specializing in arts and culture stories. His story about the 50th anniversary of GiGi’s Gay Bar in Detroit won a Detroit Society of Professional Journalists award in 2024, as did the story about Detroit’s paratransit system that he co-produced with One Detroit contributor Bryce Huffman.

Jordan has won two Michigan Emmys: one for his work on One Detroit and one for contributing as a video editor for “American Black Journal.” His passion is for documentary filmmaking, and he loves being able to bring the documentary approach to One Detroit to tell unique and authentic Detroit stories. His favorite story that he produced for One Detroit is the 2022 piece, “Underground sound: Detroit’s punk rock history on display at the All-Star Garage Rock Punk Revue.”

Born and raised in the suburbs of Detroit with a lifelong passion for film and filmmaking, Jordan studied film and television production at Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications in New York. After graduation, he moved back to Detroit to work in Michigan’s then-growing film industry before pivoting into documentary work.

He joined Detroit PBS in 2012, working as a videographer and later as a lighting director and video editor on numerous local and national shows, including One Detroit’s predecessor “MiWeek.” Outside of his work at Detroit PBS, he continues to work on independent documentary and film projects and is also a film critic for The Movie Sleuth.
