In addition to producing “One Detroit,” Daphne Hughes is the producer of Detroit PBS’ “American Black Journal,” the longest running locally produced television series focusing on the African American experience. Hughes was a former news manager at Detroit’s NBC affiliate, WDIV-TV. She has produced several award-winning television newscasts and programs, including shows for The Skillman Foundation and Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries, as well as the internationally broadcast “The Dr. Nandi Show.”
Hughes served as senior writer and media services producer in the administrations of Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan and former Mayor Dave Bing. She worked as a senior communications consultant at Mort Crim Communications, Inc. (now known as “Crimson”) and is the former Director of Communications and Marketing at Marygrove College in Detroit.
A native Detroiter, Hughes earned a Bachelor of Arts in communication studies from the University of Detroit after graduating from Detroit’s Chadsey High School.
She is a member of the WGPR-TV 62 Historical Society and has served as secretary and a fund development committee member on the Board of Directors for Matrix Theatre Company in Southwest Detroit. She is a past president of the Michigan Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
