Jonathan Shead is the Digital Content Generalist for Detroit PBS’ award-winning news programs “One Detroit” and “American Black Journal,” managing each program’s websites, social media presence and marketing responsibilities.
Within his role, Shead has spearheaded the launch of new websites for both programs and has created engaging social media campaigns for One Detroit’s “One Detroit Weekend” and “Truly Detroit” series. He also created the “Friday Five,” a weekly roundup of news from “One Detroit” and “American Black Journal.”
Shead has produced stories on the Detroit People’s Food Co-op grocery store and “America’s Test Kitchen” Chef Elle Simone Scott’s cookbook “Food Gifts,” as well as mobile features on the 2024 NFL Draft and the 60th anniversary of The Walk to Freedom in Detroit.
In 2023, Shead earned 2nd place in the category “Broadcast: General News Reporting” from the Detroit Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists for his work on Detroit PBS’ Future of Work coverage. In 2022, he earned a Michigan Association of Broadcasters BEST “Continuing Coverage” Award for his support of the Future of Work town hall series.
Before joining Detroit PBS in 2021, Shead was a reporter for C&G Newspapers covering topics such as government, education, arts and culture, and business in Farmington, Farmington Hills, Southfield, Novi, and Troy.
