Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater brings special performances to Detroit Opera House during its 2025 U.S. Tour

Mar 11, 2025

The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is making a stop at the Detroit Opera House March 14-16 as part of its 2024-25 U.S. tour.

The performance celebrates the life and legacy of the company’s late artistic director Judith Jamison. It also marks the 25th anniversary of the group’s classic dance performance, “Grace.”

“American Black Journal” host Stephen Henderson talks with Ronald K. Brown, the choreographer who created “Grace,” about the inspiration for the piece, how he became interested in dance, and the significant role that Jamison played in his career.

We’ll also play excerpts from the Ailey company’s performances of “Grace” and another popular production titled “Revelations.”
