Disease, racism and the struggles of the African-American families to maintain their mental health

COVID-19 and racial violence are taking a terrible toll on African Americans. Detroit has been a hotspot for the disease, which has disproportionately cost the lives of black residents. Then amid the pandemic, the news of the death of George Floyd, an unarmed man killed by a Minneapolis police man in a particularly gruesome manner while he begged for his life, rocked black communities across the nation. American Black Journal host Stephen Henderson talks to Assistant Professor Riana Anderson of the University of Michigan School of Public Health about the escalating anxiety and depression all this has caused and what African American families can do to maintain their mental health during this time of danger and stress.
