One Detroit – Students’ Concerns / Afghanistan Refugees / Growth and Decline in Metro Detroit / Boxing Legacy

 Tonight on One Detroit:

We checked in with our local students who are part of the PBS NewsHour Student Reporting Labs and asked what they find most worrying about going back to school in-person, how their environment has changed, and what they wish adults knew about going to school nowadays.

One Detroit contributor and Detroit News Editorial Page Editor, Nolan Finley, spoke with Steve Tobocman of Global Detroit, an organization that focuses on immigrant inclusive strategies.

  • Census 2020: Hamtramck and Highland Park See Different Shifts

Our partners at BridgeDetroit took a closer look at the two cities–both surrounded by Detroit–and how their populations have shifted. One Detroit’s Will Glover talked with reporter, Nushrat Rahman, to find out why one is seeing growth and the other isn’t.

  • Detroit’s Boxing Legacy

Detroit has produced numerous boxing champions like Joe Louis and Tommy “The Hitman” Hearns and is the home of The Kronk Gym and the Golden Gloves Tournament. The city has been a training ground for some of the best amateur and professional boxers around. Marcus Green from American Black Journal gives us a look at the city’s celebrated boxing scene.
