Things to do around Detroit this weekend: December 20, 2024
The holidays are right around the corner and people can celebrate with a variety of events including Cirque du Soleil’s “Twas The Night Before…” performance at the Fox Theatre, Menorah in the D at Campus Martius Park, and Greenmead Historical Village’s Night of Lights. Plus, check out performances such as the Last Christmas Vietnamese Show at the Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts and “Angels in the Wings – The Musical” at the Gem Theatre. Upcoming Events:
- The Greenmead Historical Village in Livonia hosts its Night of Lights Dec. 20-22, featuring street hockey, cornhole, holiday crafts, a visit from local first responders, Buddy the Elf and more.
- The “Last Christmas Vietnamese Show” is on the main stage at the Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts in Detroit Dec. 21, giving attendees a chance to experience Vietnamese culture.
- The Gem Theatre in Detroit presents a matinee and evening performance of “Angels in the Wings – The Musical” on Dec. 21, featuring jazz artist Randy Scott.
- Detroit celebrates Hanukkah downtown in Campus Martius Park with Menorah in the D, starting on Dec. 25, where a 26-foot-tall menorah will be lit.
- Cirque du Soleil brings its “Twas the Night Before…” performance to the Fox Theatre in Detroit through Dec. 31.
- The Detroit Historical Society presents “1984 World Series Street Portraits: Photography by Carlos Diaz” through Jan. 6, 2025. The exhibit features photos from the Detroit Tigers’ World Series run.
- The Encore Musical Theatre Company in Dexter performs the Tony Award-winning musical “Annie” through Jan. 12, 2025.
- The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History highlights heirlooms, family traditions and stories from Black Detroiters in its exhibit “Gems from The Wright Museum,” now open through March 9, 2025.
