Immigration Law Expert Q&A | If I’m undocumented and married to a U.S. Citizen, can’t I stay in the U.S.?

Republicans and Democrats have struck a tenuous agreement to end the government shut down, and are now facing a new deadline to reach an immigration deal by February 8th.

PBS NewsHour reports that President Trump has expressed doubts that an agreement can be met.

Recently, the deportation of Jorge Garcia from Lincoln Park, made national headlines, sparking a nationwide conversation about immigration policies and its effect on families and their communities.

In the conversation about immigration policies, common questions can arise. One Detroit recently spoke with Alex Vernon, Director of U-D Mercy’s Immigration Law Clinic. He helped clarify one of the most common questions regarding the connection between marriage and citizenship.
