Things to do around Detroit this weekend: December 6, 2024

The holiday season is in full swing around metro Detroit with a handful of events to get in the spirit. There is the Winter Markt at Shain Park in downtown Birmingham, Channel 95.5’s Jingle Ball at Little Caesars Arena and “Who Brought the Humbug” at the Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts in Detroit.  

Plus, visit Santa’s Reindeer Farm at Grandpa’s Tiny Farm in Frankenmuth and the Holly Dickens Festival at Battle Alley in Holly. One Detroit contributors Cecelia Sharpe and Haley Taylor of 90.9 WRCJ share some events coming up around the region on “One Detroit Weekend.”

Upcoming Events: 

  • The Winter Markt takes place in downtown Birmingham Dec. 6-8, featuring an array of local artists and vendors, ice sculptures, live entertainment, carriage rides and Santa Claus.  
  • Complexions Contemporary Ballet: 30th Anniversary” makes its debut at the Detroit Opera on Dec. 7-8 with a performance by the innovative dance company and the Detroit Opera Orchestra. 
  • The Holly Dickens Festival at Battle Alley invites attendees into the world of Charles Dicken’s “A Christmas Carol” through Dec. 15. The festival features a new theme each weekend. 
  • Broadway in Detroit presents “Les Misérables” at the Fisher Theatre through Dec. 15. 
  • Grandpa’s Tiny Farm in Frankenmuth invites families to visit with Santa Claus and his reindeer during the Santa’s Reindeer Farm event on Saturdays and Sundays through Dec. 22. 
  • Nutcracker! Magical Christmas Ballet comes to the Fox Theatre in Detroit on Dec. 8 as part of the production’s 32nd annual North American tour. 
  • The Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts in Detroit presents “Who Brought the Humbug,” a funky, feel-good Christmas musical, on Dec. 8. 
  • Channel 95.5 hosts the Jingle Ball Dec. 10 at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit featuring artists Jack Harlow, Teddy Swims, Jason Derulo, Madison Beer, Saweetie, NCT Dream and others.
