Things to do around metro Detroit this weekend: February 20, 2025

This weekend is full of live music and other performances coming to Detroit, including a modernized production of “Rinaldo” at the Detroit Opera House, The Rock Orchestra by Candlelight at Detroit’s Fisher Theatre, and an evening with English singer-songwriter and actress Joss Stone at the Motor City Casino Hotel. Plus, don’t miss the 2025 Monster Jam at Ford Field, a comedy show with Jessica Kirson at the Royal Oak Music Theatre and more. Upcoming Events: 

  • The Civic Youth Ensemble Civic Jazz Orchestra presents its Civic Jazz Live concert on Feb. 22 in The Cube at Orchestra Hall in Detroit. The concert will serve as the opening act for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s Paradise Jazz Series. 
  • A modernized version of Handel’s baroque opera “Rinaldo” comes to the Detroit Opera House Feb. 22 – March 2.  
  • Broadway in Detroit presents The Rock Orchestra on Feb. 22 at the Fisher Theatre in Detroit, where 14 classical musicians will play rock and metal music for audiences in a candlelit setting.  
  • Comedian Jessica Kirson performs at the Royal Oak Music Theatre on Feb. 22. 
  • The 2025 Monster Jam takes place at Ford Field Feb. 22-23, featuring some of the world’s most popular trucks including Grave Digger, El Toro Loco, Sparkle Smash and others. 
  • Steinway Piano Recitals presents “Music Around the World” on Feb. 23 at the Cranbrook House Library in Bloomfield Hills, where works by composers Domenico Scarlatti, George Gershwin and Earl Wild, Enrique Granados and more will be performed. 
  • English singer-songwriter and actress Joss Stone performs at the Sound Board stage at Motor City Casino Hotel in Detroit on Feb. 23.  
  • The Preservation of Jazz presents Sky Convington’s Satin Doll Revue at Aretha’s Jazz Cafe in Detroit on Feb. 24. The night will feature performances from Veronique Music, Lady Vonne, Thornetta Davis and Sky Covington.
