Things to do in Detroit this weekend: December 13, 2024

It’s time for another festive weekend in and around Detroit with the Mistletoe Mingle at the Ford House in Grosse Pointe Shores, and HollyDazzle at the Michigan Renaissance Festival fairground. Plus, don’t miss holiday-themed performances like Mannheim Steamroller Christmas at the Fox Theatre and Holiday Detroit at the Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts. One Detroit contributor Cecelia Sharpe of 90.9 WRCJ shares what’s coming up on “One Detroit Weekend.”  

Upcoming Events: 

  • The Detroit Repertory Theatre presents “Alamo Shoes,” through Dec. 22. The play tells the story of how employees deal with a terrible incident inside the last shoe store in Detroit.  
  • HollyDazzle takes place at the Michigan Renaissance Fairgrounds in Holly on select dates through Dec. 31, featuring a polar pub crawl, the hollydazzle train, and a festive trip through Hollygrove Village.
  • The Mannheim Steamroller Christmas by Chip Davis, the longest-running concert tour in the entertainment industry, takes place Dec. 13 at the Fox Theatre in Detroit. 
  • The Michigan Glass Project hosts the Grateful Gathering Dec. 14 at the Russell Industrial Center, where Detroit DJs will be spinning tunes. Attendees can shop at the holiday market and check out live flameworking and painting exhibitions. 
  • The Ford House in Grosse Pointe Shores hosts the Mistletoe Mingle on Dec. 19, where attendees can enjoy drinks, holiday decorations and food set to live music in a cozy atmosphere.  
  • The Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts in Detroit presents “Holiday Detroit” on Dec. 19. The performance features the Voyageur College Prep Dance Department and other special guests. 
  • The Oloman Cafe and Gallery in Hamtramck presents Detroit artist Naomi Ning’s solo art exhibit “Finding Comfort in the Familiar” through Dec. 19. The exhibit’s theme focuses on food as an expression of labor, love and care. 
  • Downtown Rochester hosts its Winter Wonder Lights through Dec. 30, featuring holiday lights, glow-in-the-dark cotton candy and popcorn, seasonal and specialty drinks, bonfires and more.
