Things to do in Detroit this weekend: November 1, 2024

November kicks off with fall-themed events and Día de los Muertos celebrations. Plus, the holiday season is right around the corner with the All Things Detroit Holiday Shopping Experience and Food Truck Rally.  

There are also several upcoming performances to check out including Stan Barnes and Friends, Steve Martin and Martin Short, an Oakland Symphony Orchestra concert and more. One Detroit contributors Dave Wagner and Cecelia Sharpe of 90.9 WRCJ share what’s coming up on “One Detroit Weekend.”

Upcoming Events: 

  • The Columbia Street Fall Fest runs through Nov. 15 along Columbia Street in downtown Detroit, where attendees can take in a beautiful array of fall colors and decorations.  
  • The annual Día de los Muertos Festival takes place at La Jalisciense Supermercado Y Taqueria in Southwest Detroit through Nov. 3 and features cultural workshops, arts activities, folklorico dance performances and more. 
  • Stan Barnes and Friends will be live in concert at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center in Dearborn on Nov. 2. 
  • Acclaimed actors Steve Martin and Martin Short bring their “The Dukes of Funnytown” show to the Fox Theatre in Detroit on Nov. 2. 
  • The annual All Things Detroit Holiday Shopping Experience and Food Truck Rally returns to Detroit’s Eastern Market on Nov. 3 featuring a holiday market, refreshments and more.  
  • The Flint Institute of Arts hosts “Late Nights: Día de los Muertos” on Nov. 1 in partnership with the Latinx Technology & Community Center. The event includes an ofrenda, traditional foods, art demonstrations and more.  
  • The Oakland Symphony Orchestra hosts a concert at Varner Recital Hall in Rochester on Nov. 3.  
  • The Birmingham Village Players presents its production of the Tony Award-winning musical “Next to Normal” on Nov. 1-3 and Nov. 7-10. The play explores the topic of mental health.
