Things to do in Detroit this weekend: November 15, 2024
This weekend, get into the holiday spirit with the tree lighting at Canterbury Village in Lake Orion. Plus, dogs are invited to Barkside Detroit to chase tennis balls on Thursdays. There are also a variety of arts and theater performances coming to town including “Under the Streetlamp” at Orchestra Hall, “The Wizard of Oz” at the Midland Center for the Arts, and a Marx Brothers double feature at the Redford Theatre in Detroit. Upcoming Events:
- Barkside Detroit hosts its Tennis Ball Thursdays, where dog owners can bring their furry friends to chase tennis balls while you enjoy a drink. Registration is required.
- The Secret Society of Twisted Storytellers hosts “Best of Twisted Part 1” on Nov. 15 at Marygrove Theatre, featuring some of the best stories from the organization’s events.
- Canterbury Village in Lake Orion hosts its annual tree lighting on Nov. 15. Canterbury Village’s holiday season will also include a Cocoa Crawl on Nov. 16-17 and a holiday stroll on Nov. 29-30.
- The Redford Theatre in Detroit presents a Marx Brothers double feature with showings of the movies “Duck Soup” and “A Night at the Opera” on Nov. 15.
- “Under the Streetlamp” with the Detroit Symphony takes place on Nov. 15 at Orchestra Hall in Detroit. The show features classic Doo Wop, Motown and Rock ‘n’ Roll hits being performed.
- The Midland Center for the Arts presents a production of the timeless classic “The Wizard of Oz” on Nov. 15-17.
- The Mugs, a three-piece blues rock band, and The Winds of Neptune take the stage at Cadieux Cafe in Detroit on Nov. 16. The music starts at 8:30 p.m. and it costs $10 for admission.
- The Detroit Repertory Theater presents “Alamo Shoes,” a play that takes place in the fictional last shoe store in Detroit, through Dec. 22. Showings take place Fridays through Sundays.
