Things to do in Detroit this weekend: October 4, 2024

The first weekend of October brings a variety of arts and cultural programming to the region, including Soirée on the Greenway in Detroit, the Big Country Fest in Frankenmuth, and the Smooth Jazz Fall Fest at the Fox Theatre. The musical “Ain’t Too Proud: The Life and Times of The Temptations” also returns to Detroit Plus, enjoy the fall season with Octobernight in Monroe County and Harvest Happening in Waterford. See what else is coming up in and around Detroit this weekend on “One Detroit Weekend.”

Upcoming Events: 

  • The Fox Theatre in Detroit presents the musical “Ain’t Too Proud: The Life and Times of The Temptations” Oct. 3-4. The musical tells the story of The Temptations’ musical career. 
  • Soirée on the Greenway, a masquerade fundraiser that supports the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy, takes place at the Dequindre Cut Freight Yard on Oct. 4. 
  • The Big Country Fest in Frankenmuth Oct. 4-5 includes live music, line dancing lessons, vendors, food trucks and more.  
  • Get into the Halloween spirit during Octobernight at River Raisin Territorial Park in Monroe Oct. 4-5. The two-night event includes historic Halloween traditions, live music and more. 
  • The Fox Theatre in Detroit hosts the Smooth Jazz Fall Fest Oct. 5. The lineup features Najee, Alexander Zonjic, Everette Harp, Paul Jackson Jr. and others. 
  • The Angels’ Place Annual Fall Fest takes place at the Detroit Country Day Field House on Oct. 6. The event is a fundraiser for the organization, which supports people with developmental disabilities.
  • Irish supergroup Celtic Thunder brings its “Odyssey” performance to the Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts in Detroit on Oct. 6.  
  • Harvest Happening takes place at Hess-Hathaway Park in Waterford on Oct. 6. The event includes pony rides, historic house tours, games and crafts, music and more.
